We are creatures of habit. We learn from a young age, behaviors that serve us and we repeat them when needed. Habits are learned and reside in the  unconscious mind. It accepts what is known and maintains the habits because they serve needs. It’s a  part of your primal instinct for survival. Not all habits are healthy and are for your greater good but they do satisfy a need.

Bad habits serve legitimate needs but have detrimental effects on our physical health, well-being, self respect, relationships, career, mental health, etc.  They typically develop to overcome anxiety, manage stress, and create relaxation. It’s the detrimental affects that are what are of concern.
